I bought an old SKILSAW 367 type1 for $15.00. I changed the oil, repaired the cord, and replaced the brushes with a pair I had to modify to fit. Problem now is a guard return spring that has come loose. Is there a trick to getting the spring ends set in corresponding holes?

Thanks for the post mailman57,

I don't know of a trick per se, it's just a matter of taking some long needle nose pliers and carefully inserting the hook on each end of the spring and inserting it into the corresponding holes. It can be tedious but it's the only method I know.
Hopefully someone who does have a trick can chime in!

I appreciate the reply. The SKIL help desk wasn't much help. I'm guessing once I get the spring ends set, I'll need to wind the guard to achieve proper tension.

Is it the metal handle version, or the plastic handle? Are you saying that it has the return spring around the arbor?

Yes, metal handle. I took care of the guard problem by using a small return spring hooked to lower guard and the frame. My problem now is the worn bronze gear on the blade arbor. This saw was made in late 1950s, and I can’t find a parts manual. Is There a suitable replacement available?
