HI, I think it has done too much work for a little guy. EMS 250VK model
Would replacing the brushes fix the issue or is it a whole new armature etc??

Unless the brushes are simply worn down with no arcing on either the brushes or the commutator portion of the armature, typically you would need to replace both armature and field plus the brushes which usually costs more than a new unit.

Thanks Admin. So the armature and field will costs about $50. What do each look like? Is the Armature where all the copper wiring is?

This is the armature I believe. Are these cracks and dishes normal in the body?

The armature is what rotates, that the brushes ride on.
The field is a winding of wire that creates the electro magnetic field that causes the armature to spin.

Those cuts are to balance the armature as it spins. The spaces on each commutator section should be equal to the next. If one is wider or very dark, this could be a short in that section of the armature. The only way to test is to place it on a "growler", which most motor shops have.
