what size compressor was created by mikemcnerney
I want to buy a 3" palm sander for wet sanding & polishing. It requires 4cfm at 90psi. What is the smallest compressor I can get away with. The most I will use this tool is for 20 minutes spread out over an hour.

I would say something like this Industrial Air unit, which you can view at the below link:

An Oil-Free unit would be ideal, that way you don't have to remember to check the oil level and won't have to worry about oil getting into your air lines.

There are quite a few hand-carry units out there that produce 4 CFM @ 90 PSI, this is just one of them. I would recommend going with a reputable brand like Industrial Air, Coleman Powermate, Rolair, Porter Cable, DeWalt, Jenny, Ridgid or Campbell Hausfeld (just to name a few) as units sold at Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight, etc. are very light-duty and replacement parts are typically not available for these cheap units.
