Husky Vertical Air compressor was created by mmchale1
After switching on smoke appeared from the electric motor cover, this is a relatively new compressor with little use, any thoughts ???

What is the model# of the compressor? This will help.
Basically you could either have a shot motor start capacitor or run capacitor, or the windings in the motor [field] have burnt because of a short.
You may need to have it taken in to an electric motor repair shop for diagnosis. But if you're somewhat technically adept you can take the cover off of the motor (4 long screws) and inspect the wiring to see where the smoke originated from.
Also, test the motor capacitors, which you can do with a voltmeter (if you don't have a capacitor tester):
- MTR
