Greetings! I have a 8 gallon portable Husky TA-2530B compressor that suddenly will start to lose RPM and labors when the tank has about 50 psi in it. When I shut it off, it holds that pressure fine with no bleed off, but the motor will not run against that pressure or more. Was able to tease it up to 100 psi in the tank and it held that pressure fine. Am I right that this is an unloader problem? Do not suspect problem under the head because it runs with force when tank is below 50 psi.....thanks.

I take it that you have this unit:

As long as the pump has sufficient oil, this seems like a motor capacitor issue.
What is the rating of the capacitor as it is not available from the mfgr.
Need the voltage and the mfd or uf rating.

Give me til tomorrow as I'm not where the compressor is to take the shroud off and read the data from the capacitor....thanks for the reply.

Here's the data from my capacitor:

CBB60
250V
50/60 Hz
100uf +/- 5%
-25/70°C SH

Thanks again...surprised it would be the capacitor as it runs robustly until about 50 psi in the tank. If it weren't hooked to AC power directly, I'd get that.....

Let's test the capacitor anyway as this seems to be a start/run capacitor.
The test methods are here:

Just want to be sure that you are not running this on an extension cord as the amp draw increases with pressure.

Holy cow...didn't think of that. Long extension cord 15 amp circuit, it labours at 50 psi; no extension cord or long cord on 20 amp circuit, it goes right to 125 psi.....thanks for that! Aside of feeling like an idiot, quite happy. I'll test the capacitor anyhow.....
