Rebuilt pump, used for 3 days, top gasket blew on valve plate. Should I have used a gasket compound as well? Also, did not replace bolts, does that make a difference? Model C65C6OOV1B103
No gasket sealant is required, and it's not necessary to replace the head bolts when replacing gaskets.
The first thing to do is to make sure thee bolts are torqued down to spec; these head bolts have a torque spec of 200-220 in/lbs.
Make sure you tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern, starting with the outer bolts.
The second issue to look at is back-pressure. If the in-tank check valve (the main one-way valve in the main tank inlet, in which the main discharge line threads into). If the check valve is not sealing when the unit shuts off, back-pressure will make its way back through the air lines, putting pressure on the head, and could certainly damage a head gasket. Make sure there is no debris in the check valve that would cause this. It may need cleaning or replacing.
