Air compressor problem? was created by davefollmers
Hi,

I have a Detroit Series 60 and I may need a new air compressor????
If my air is low it won't build back up at an idle. I need to bump it up to at least 1,000rpm and it will slowly rise. Is this an indication it's toast? And, anyone have an idea how much to replace?

Please help.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.

Thanks for the post,

Most likely you just need to replace the Pilot/Unloader Valve, since this is the "brain" of the air compressor and tells the Throttle/Idle Control Valve to kick the governor to WOT so it can rebuild pressure.

You can try cleaning the Pilot Valve out as there may be gunk and debris inside of it that's causing it not to sense pressure accurately, but this is not easy to do and may require replacing the Pilot/Unloader Valve.
