Sanborn pump reversible? was created by dcheatwood
Hey all. First time poster. Been reading and learning a lot here.
Need Help.
Father in law gave me an old Sanborn 34B50-10 air compressor. The motor was weak but the tank holds ait up to 100psi. I have a better motor to put on it but it rotates clocklwise and the blades on the pump pully appear to need to rotate the oposite direction to cool the pump. Can anyone tell me if the pump can run either way?
The motor is Century single phase. Thanks for your thoughts.
Sanborn looks like thew one in the picture.

Thanks for the post David, glad you're finding this forum useful!

You're correct in that the fins on the pump's Flywheel are angled a certain way to cool the pump. So, it's not recommended to reverse the motor direction as the Flywheel spinning in the wrong direction (CW versus CCW) will actually pull air away from the pump, causing it to run hot.

Thank you for the confirmation. After I posted here I did another survey of the motor and saw a label with wireing diagrams and "To reverse, swap red and black leads." Duh!!
I took the panel off and simple as pie, switched red and black. Now ccw.

Glad to help, and I was going to mention that most motors are reversible so you should be able to re-wire.

Happy compressing!
