Emglo K15 8p was created by thesaw
I have an Emglo K15 8p that is about twenty years old. Problem, changed the oil about two weeks ago and now the air filter is full of oil. Is it possible that I overfilled it? I would hate to think that it was something more than that as it has never had a problem before this. I am currently running it in the constant run mode as there are many guns attached to it. I have a dual control switch on it. Please let me know you thoughts and any advice.
Thanks,
Buzz Polchinski

Thanks for the post, Buzz.
I would say that MOST likely the valves are sticking in the head. It's not a very expensive repair but it sounds like you'll need to put a little cash into it and replace the Disc Valves and Head Gaskets.
Typically this is the case when the disc valves are sticking in the head in the Emglo pumps. If one of the four spring-actuated disc valves in the valve plate are not opening and closing like they should (exhaust valve, probably) then it could "suck" oil through the cylinders and into the head, soaking the filter in oil. If you remove the main Transfer Tube or drain the tank you will probably find oil in the line as well.
You may need to take the pump off of the head and take a look at the valves, you should be able to press down onto them and they should spring back up. The Intake valves have smaller springs so there won't be as much resistance as the exhaust valves have, which have thicker springs. You may also have some debris in the valve plate which isn't allowing the valves to open and close like they should. This is really the only way you could get oil in the filter.
You really can't put too much oil in those Emglo pumps. you have a KU pump on this model and typically you just fill it all the way up to the threads at the oil fill plug...anymore and it will just pour out but typically we fill these pumps with oil to the threads.
I hope this helps the cause, let us know what you find after diagnosis and feel free to post the response back here!

Well I took the copper discharge off the pump and tanks. It does have a trace amount of oil in it. I turned the pump on and placed an oil only absorbant towel in front of the discharge. After running for a minute or so there was oil present on the towel. That and the oil in the air filter seem to point to the correct diagnosis you gave me about two weeks ago. I guess I will order a valve kit and replace them. Thanks for the help with this matter.
