Do to my age it is very hard to get down low enough to see the sight glass to check the oil. If I use a dowl rod to go down thru the fill hole how high should the oil level be on the stick for a campbell hausfeld vt4823 compressor

You probably already figured this out, but the oil capacity (when dry) for this pump is 8.5 oz.
The "MAX" line is just 1/4" or so above the bottom of the dipstick. In the attached photo, you should be able to see that on the end of the dipstick. I hope this helps!
