New Pressure Relief Valve Leaking was created by jhallberg
I ordered a 1/4" 150 psi Pressure Relief Valve and installed it on my Puma 20 gallon 125 psi Air Compressor. The new pressure relief valve is leaking from the threads at the end of the valve, near the ring. It leaks until the pressure hits 50 psi. Does the end of the valve need to be tightened? It looks like it would take a special tool to do that. Please advise. Thanks.

Can you send a picture of it noting where exactly it is leaking?
Teflon tape is only needed for the threads of a safety valve.

What does valve show as the psi rating on it?
Also, what is the max pressure of your unit?
Lastly, reading your tank pressure gauge, not the regulated pressure gauge, what does it state that the pressure is when the unit cuts off?

The Safety Relief Valve rating is 150 psi.
The maximum pressure of the tank is 125 psi.
The Pressure Switch cuts off the motor at 110 psi.
The Safety Relief Valve starts leaking before the tank pressure reaches 50 psi.
The amount of air leaking increases as the tank pressure increases which causes the tank to take much longer to fill than normal.

This should not happen. What was your order number and I will have someone send you out a new valve.
