Hello Everyone,

I have the above compressor. The problem I am having is that once the compressor gets to 100psi (from empty), the pump stalls. I'm unsure if it's the belt or if the compressor is starting to give up and requires a rebuild or replacement. Is there additional items I may check before I order a replacement pump?

2nd question: Will the 165 (5hp) pump be a direct replacement for the 130 (3.5hp) pump?
2a. Will the 165 work with my tank and pressure regulator?

Thanks for your time.

Regards

The 165 pump will only work if you have a 5HP motor.
When your pump gets to 100 psi, what exactly happens? Does the motor stall?
Have you checked your belt tension?

Yes,

The motor stalls. I will check the belt.

Here are some other tips:

Over Amp can be caused by the wrong motor pulley, overloading motor, trying to turn pump too fast.
Using a motor without a starter means all the load is going through a pressure switch. Burned contacts will over amp the motor.
A bad unloader on the pump will overload a motor on startup. ( depends upon if the pump has a C/U unloader )
Missing or bad unloader valve on a Press Switch, the same problem happens. ( for pumps not having a C/U unloader )
Bad check valve on the tank, same problem, starting under a load. ( very common problem) The motor will strain to start up.
Bad Capacitors.
Loose or burnt wires anywhere will burn a motor up.
Using an extension cord.
Bad Wall outlet socket.
Undersized wiring.
Bad pressure switch, short cycling.
The pump has run out of oil before. Excessive drag.
Pump Valves in the head may be going bad causing overheat and drag.

Ok, when it hits 100psi, the pump slows down, start to squeal and smell rubber.
